Soundbites About Bossypants

9418327Title: Bossypants
Author: Tina Fey
Narrator: Tina Fey
Rating (Story): ★★★★☆
Rating (Narration):★★★★☆

Given how much I loved How To Be a Woman, Bossypants was an obvious choice for my next audiobook. Both are written by a woman who has done well in the entertainment industry; are autobiographies mixed with some strong opinions and advice; and both are narrated by the author. This book was less specifically focused on feminism and being a woman, but that was definitely one of the themes of the book.

Something I loved about both books was how hard they made me laugh while simultaneously making me nod my head in agreement. I had a slightly harder time following Bossypants, probably because I hadn’t read the book before listening, but the organization seemed to be generally chronological. Despite that small problem, I would still recommend this as an audiobook just because it’s so great to hear the author’s own emotion come through. It was a very good choice for fans of How To Be a Woman or anyone who likes an audiobook that will make you laugh.

  1. This book made me laugh like an idiot 😉 I’m glad you liked it too!

  2. I read this and enjoyed it but really wish I’d listened to it.

    • Honestly, I might still recommend listening to it, if you have the time. I read How To Be a Woman and then listened to it and not only enjoyed it but found it easier to follow as a result. Plus Tina Fey is just so funny!

  3. ohhh, I just downloaded this on my Audible Audiobooks apps. I liked it a lot, Tina Fey is indeed a hilarious but witty storyteller 🙂

  4. Nice. I’ve actually been hoping to get into non-fiction more and because I love Tina Fey (and I love that she made you both laugh and nod your head in agreement), I would definitely give this (and her other one) a shot! So she narrates it herself? Points to the audiobook then!

    • I actually have watched very little SNL and knew next to nothing about Tina Fey, but after reading this, I’d love to see more of her! It’s very fun to have an audiobook narrated by the author and I thought Tina did a realyl great job 🙂

  5. I LOVE Tina Fey. I’ve been wanting to read this book, but every time I check the library it’s checked out. (although, admittedly, I only visit the library every couple of months) I would definitely recommend watching 30 Rock with Tina Fey if you haven’t already. It’s all on Netflix (except for the last season) and it’s really hilarious. Just make sure you give it a couple of episodes because you have to get to know and love the completely over the top characters first! =]
Oh, and it’s pretty cool that you’re going through the Dewey decimal system. I used to read a lot, but don’t get around to it as much as I should now. Seriously, girl, you make me feel guilty for not reading enough. I feel like I need to go to the library today, but I’m afraid of my late fees. 😛
BTW, I’m Laura, your SMC partner. It’s nice to meet you! =]

    • Reading this made me want to watch 30 Rock – it sounds so quirky! I’ll definitely check it out on netflix.
I didn’t read hardly at all as an undergrad. The reading for class just took up too much time for me to want to read for fun. As a grad student I’ve found I have a lot more energy for fun reading and I’ve loved getting back into it. My late fees get pretty terrifying too! I have such a hard time returning something unread.
I love all the crafting and cooking you do on your blog. Perhaps while you run to the library I should go to a craft store 😛 Thanks for stopping by my blog! It’s nice to meet you too 🙂

  6. I don’t normally listen to audiobooks but I did listen to this one on a long car trip and laughed the entire way. Tina Fey is so hilarious!

  7. I loved this book! Tina Fey is amazing and so is 30 Rock (you should definitely watch it!). I found it really interesting to learn more about her adventures to get to where she is now, and some of the stories she shares about her friendship with Amy Poehler (another amazing woman!) are hilarious!
