I’m so excited! In our new apartment, we have two blue jays who regularly come and sit on our porch while visiting our neighbor’s feeder. By waiting with my camera strategically aligned, I finally managed to get a nice sharp picture of this one sitting still. I think I could still get a better one though, if I took a vertical instead of cropping, so I’ll definitely keep trying.

This week, I’ve spent almost all my time on campus, starting very early in the morning, with class at 8:40 or 9 every day. Since in my ideal world, I get up at 9, I’ve had some trouble adjusting! Somehow just getting 8 hours of sleep isn’t enough to make up for getting it at the wrong time. Fortunately, classes are going well and campus isn’t such a bad place to be. This deer obviously doesn’t think so either, since it let me get quite close without seeming at all nervous. Next week, hopefully I’ll get some pictures in the many beautiful campus gardens. Have a nice weekend 🙂
Despite being spring break, this week has been quite busy! Mostly I’ve been worrying about the news that the professor whose lab I want to join is moving to Cornell and I have to decide if I want to be in his lab badly enough to move to0. I’m leaning toward yes, so this blog may soon be brought to you from Ithaca, NY. How exciting!
The picture this week is a touch-up of a picture I took when visiting UC Riverside. I cleaned up some of the obvious problems, like the picture being taken at an angle, but what I was really going for was a slightly Italian feel to the scene. To achieve that, I darkened the tree at the back and added some yellow to the walls. I feel like there’s still room for improvement to take it more in that direction though, so any suggestions would be welcome 🙂 Have a great weekend!
This week I stayed a little closer to home for my photography and finally got the perfect lighting to take a picture of this interesting shadow created by my balcony rail. The Ames Camera Club abstract photography competition is coming up next week and I think I may enter this picture as well (everyone may enter up to 3), so wish me luck! I hope everyone is having a great weekend 🙂
This week, the Ames Photography Club meeting was a talk on HDR photography, so I’ve been experimenting with that a little this week. Unfortunately, I don’t have any results I’m excited about. But I did photoshop this picture I took over Christmas break and I think I like it enough that it’s going to be my entry in the photography club contest this year. The theme is abstracts and I’ve had a lot of fun taking pictures of things I wouldn’t usually notice trying to get something good for it 🙂 As always, feel free to check out my other work on flickr and if you follow me, I’ll follow you back.
Welcome to the first photography Friday! One of my new year’s resolutions is to take a picture every week this year and those pictures will be posted in this section of the blog. This is a chandelier in the Georgia Tech library. I’ve been taking picture of chandeliers for a while and I’ve been thinking of starting a project photographing libraries, so this was too perfect an opportunity to miss! If any of you are working on photography projects this year, feel free to pop over and follow me on flickr. I’ll be sure to follow you back 🙂
