Hi all and happy saturday! Today I’m happy to report that I did a lot of the things I wanted to do to work on improving my photography. I did a bit of reading in a book called The Essential Guide to Bird Photography. It suggested trying to focus on taking a bunch of pictures of one species, perhaps taking pictures of other birds as they showed up. It also suggested getting a longer lens, which I might do at some point. And it suggested that different birds might be better photographed at different times of the day depending on their coloration. Continue reading

Snapshot Saturday
As you may have noticed, my photography Friday posts have been spotty to non-existent lately. I think this reflects the fact that changes need to be made in both how I do photography and how I do these posts. First, although I like doing fiction reviews on saturday, I think I’m going to swap days. From now own I’ll have a “Snapshot Saturday” as part of the corresponding meme and will post fiction on Friday. This means that if I realize at the last minute that I have no pictures to post, it’s a weekend and I can go out and take some. Continue reading

I mostly don’t photoshop my pictures (except for small changes, like saturation and brightness) and I’m not sure if I like the ones I photoshopped here. I’m trying to achieve a look as though they’ve been drawn on rice paper, since I feel the flowers have a Chinese vibe. Perhaps I’ll improve it tomorrow when I’m not so tired from a long day at work. Have a nice weekend!

Photography Friday
I usually have such a hard time getting pictures of birds on my balcony because they’re there and then gone faster than I can move. Today, they were strangely oblivious to me moving around, to the point where I wish I’d taken the time to line up some of my shots better. Instead, I shot quickly, expecting them to fly away at any moment. Hopefully this means the birds are getting more comfortable and this will happen frequently 🙂 Happy Friday all!

Photography Friday
This week I’m still going through the many pictures I took during my lab social events last week. These ones were all taken at Taughannock Falls where we all had a wonderful time grilling out, relaxing by the lake, and going on a brief hike up to the falls. I was very excited about the snake picture, since I’m rarely somewhere that I get to see snakes. It makes me think I should really get out to the many nearby parks more often so I might stumble on some more wildlife photography opportunities.

Photography Friday
About a year ago, my professor changed universities and this week we had all the lab members who stayed behind out to visit. It was incredibly busy and kind of stressful because we had to do ALL of the things while they were here, but it was also a lot of fun and very productive! It was fun to see people and great to bounce ideas of each other. In addition to catching up on everyone else’s research, we also spent some time doing fun things like hiking (while unofficially brainstorming) which gave me a lot of great photo opportunities this week. The above pictures are taken at Treman Park and Grisamore Farms, where we went cherry picking.
