Photography Friday

Last weekend my boyfriend and I went to a sheep shearing, mostly because I wanted to get pictures of adorable sheep! The event itself wasn’t the most exciting, because once you’ve seen one sheep sheared, that’s really enough. But it was beautiful weather and getting pictures was a lot of fun, so we had a good time.

I’d also like to mention today that I’m starting to participate in the Saturday Snapshot link up. Although I like doing fiction on weekends and prefer to continue to post on Friday, I will include a link back to the meme each week so you can join in and visit other participants if you like. Here’s the a link to the host’s blog.

Photography Friday

As promised, here is this week’s Photography Friday, complete with adorable goats and beautiful horses. The blog may not be running with German precision (which, Top Gear informs me, is the best sort of precision) while I adjust to spending hours on homework again, but everything will still get done 🙂 In the mean time, let’s remember better days, just two weeks ago, when instead of spending my weekend programming, I spent it visiting the Lively Run Goat Dairy open house.

There was a cheese tasting, including their plain chevre and a couple of blue cheeses, as well as a tour of the goat barn where the dairy goat in the picture seemed confused about the edibility of my fingers! I also got to pet the horse in the picture, although he had such a knack for running away as soon as my camera was out, that I had to use my zoom lens to get the picture above. Although we didn’t get to see cheese being made, I had a good time and can’t wait for the next time local dairies have an open house day.

Photography Friday

Although the name “Photography Friday” has become less accurate lately, I am excited to at last have gotten out to take pictures this week.  With getting ready to move to Ithaca at the end of July, I’ve already started putting in extra time trying to finish things up here before I leave.  But today the weather was beautiful and I didn’t have much work to do, so I just wandered around my apartment complex and enjoyed taking some nature pictures.  I hope everyone else is having a relaxing weekend too 🙂

Photography Friday

This past week, I got to visit with the boy for the first time in almost two months!  Since we usually visit once a month, it felt like it had been forever.  So we had a great time with our visit, including a fun trip to the Des Moines Zoo.  I was also using my 55-250mm lens for only the second time (the first time was for the parade pictures last week) and the zoom was fantastic!  I do hate it a little that it becomes physically impossible for me to take pictures of anything too close, but I also think it’s a fun challenge to make all my pictures work without changing lenses.  I’ll definitely be using it more often!

Bookends and the Point of the Project

Even ignoring all the awesome information I’m learning from reading so much non-fiction, I’ve been learning a lot from this project.  In particular, I’m learning to do things for the journey instead of the destination; to be patient with myself; to indulge my interests; and to see where life takes me.  I have zero self-control in the library, absolutely none.  Which is why I ended up with  All Creatures Great and Small, a book from a section I’d already read a book from!  I’m absolutely amazed at the number of books I can find to desperately want to read in even a small section of a small library in Ames, Iowa.  But I constantly remind myself that I’m not going to finish the project in a reasonable time frame anyway, and you know what?  It doesn’t matter. Because finishing is not the point.  The point is to read books I wouldn’t have read otherwise and become a more well-rounded person.  Plus to enjoy myself of course, which is usually enough all by itself to make me glad I picked a book up.
