Soundbites About The Eyre Affair

9781840328684Title: The Eyre Affair
Author: Jasper Fford
Narrators: Gabrielle Kruger
Rating (Story): ★★★★☆
Rating (Narration):★★★★★

Since I already reviewed the book version of The Eyre Affair, I won’t say too much about the story here. All of the strange things that happen in this book, the things that make it remind me of Douglas Adams, were initially a little harder to follow as an audiobook. That got better as I went, but I still might recommend the written version over the audio. The narrator was very good, however, doing both female and male voices convincingly and with emotion. For that reason, I would certainly recommend re-reading as an audiobook. In fact, I think I enjoyed the story even more than the first time, once I got into it. I wasn’t quite as focused on how novel the world was and was able to enjoy this more as an adventure/mystery. Now I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

  1. Hey, my bf has this book! Don’t think he’s read it yet though. Just checked out your original review and it sounds hilarious! “Everything about this book is absurdly clever and cleverly absurd”<– LOVE! Now I'm going to have to check this one out, too! Maybe not in audiobook format.

  2. THE EYRE AFFAIR is brilliant. I love all the Thursday Next books. I’m not too into audio books, i find a lot don’t translate well to that medium. I can see that The Eyre Affair might have that problem. Thanks for the review!

  3. I really liked book one and two of this series, but had a hard time getting through book three. I have decided to stop reading them for a bit to see if they strike my interest at another time. The concept of the books is what got me interested. I so wish to jump into a good novel 🙂

  4. Jasper Fforde’s books are amazing! His imagination is endless. Definitely stick with it, whether in paper or audio. Such fun books!
