Monday Musings

Musing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week…

• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.

However, this format for Monday Musings is a recent development, replacing a system where each week was a different question. At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about this format so this week I’ll pondering whether to muse or not to muse…

Originally, I was disappointed with the change and skipped a week thinking I was done with Monday Musings. However, I’d already been planning to share an invite link to Riffle (a new book networking site) in a Monday Musings. They’ve kind of become my become my catch-all post for non-book-review but bookish things I want to share and I wasn’t sure I wanted to give that up. So last week I went back to participating and I really enjoyed it.

Here are some of the pros I noticed. I think it adds some nice variety that different bloggers are discussing different topics. It gives me a greater variety of things to talk about when I visit other blogger’s Monday Musings too. I can now post in advance, although I still need to link up to the host blog on Monday. And best of all, as I’ve been getting more into book blogging, I’ve started to have some bookish topics I want to post about floating around in the back of my mind. This new meme format is the perfect place for those. The only downside is that I do find it a little intimidating to be responsible for providing the interesting topic to muse on. Fortunately, there are many old Monday Musings I haven’t done that I can go to for inspiration.

Do you participate in any meme’s where you provide the topic (Sunday Salon, for instance, and now Monday Musings)? If so, where do you usually get your inspiration for your posts? Do you have to work at it or do things just come to you?

  1. I felt the same way about it, but I’ve actually enjoyed having a little more freedom. Plus, I still do Booking Through Thursday in which I answer a bookish question. I like that Musing Mondays has an outline to it, so while I can post anything, I feel like I have some guidance.

    • I may have to look up the Booking Through Thursday meme, if I start minding the lack of structure 🙂 But for now, I’m also enjoying the chance to do something a little different.

  2. I must start thinking of some musing subjects…the price of freedom.

    • Haha, exactly! I do have some topics in mind, although a lot of the time I feel like other bloggers have already written very nice posts saying exactly what I would say.

I wasn’t sure either at first but I like being able to schedule a musing ahead of time instead of waiting on the question. Here’s my MM: http://daystarz.wordpress.com/2013/02/04/chatterbox/

    • Being able to schedule in advance is definitely my favorite part of the change. Mondays are kind of hectic and it’s nice to have the post all written so I can (if I remember) link to my post early in the day 🙂

with my schedule I do not participate in many challenges or musings, but one day I will look forward to it. In the mean time I will enjoy everyone else’s.
