This week the Monday Musings question from Should Be Reading is the following: If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop and look it up right away?
I usually do. Although I haven’t come across words I don’t know all that often lately, I did just finish Hyperion for a goodreads group read and that had quite a few words I stopped and googled. And getting into historical non-fiction has caused me to do a lot more googling to learn about time periods and places.
How do you usually deal with unfamiliar words when you’re reading?

If I am reading a book, I will only check if I really wanted to know what the word the word means, if not I will try to guess the meaning of the word by reading the sentence again. But now with e-books, I will always check if the word is foreign to me.
That makes sense. When I was reading historical non-fiction and wanted to look up dates and places all the time, it made it hard to read away from my laptop. An e-reader would have been much more convenient!
I recently bought a Kindle and they make it quite easy to quickly tap the word in question.
Good point! I almost exclusively use my kindle when I’m traveling and don’t have room to carry a lot of books, so I forget some of the other perks they have
