This week the Monday Musings question is the following: Do you listen to audiobooks? If not, why not? And, if so, what has been one of your favorites, so far?
In a word…no. The long answer is that audiobooks drive me crazy because the narrator reads so much more slowly then I do! Although I occasionally consider using audiobooks when driving and a book isn’t an option (at least not a good one
) I dislike being in the middle of multiple books too much for the idea to really appeal to me.
Feel free to answer the Monday Musing question yourself, either here or on the blog of the memes host, Should Be Reading. Do you listen to audiobooks? What do you like or dislike about them?

I and my children listened to all of the Harry Potter books on CD. Jim Dale is an amazing voice actor. We would listen in the car and very often, we’d have to stay in the car until the story got to a point we felt we could leave. I also listened to the audio version of Catching Fire because I was in grad school and the only downtime I had was driving. Elizabeth McCormack (I think…I’m probably wrong) read it and she was great.
How fun! When I was younger, my family also listened to audiobooks or more often Jim Weiss tapes (original stories, rather than books).
I don’t really mess around with audiobooks too much. I do enjoy having them to listen to while doing housework/cleaning/whatever though. I almost look forward to doing it.
I get frustrated like you do because I can read faster than the narrator, ha.
That makes sense – I’m the same way with watching TV while exercising
It’s nice to have something fun you can do while simultaneously accomplishing something.
I LOVE audio books. I listen to them in the car, while cleaning, while web-surfing, while exercising, etc. Yeah, I could read the book twice as fast if I were reading the hard copy, but I can’t simultaneously read a real book and mop or jog.
Actually, I’m listening to Leave the Grave Green by Deborah Crombie as I type this…
But, I don’t mind being in the middle of several books at once. That probably influences my love for audio books – because right now I’m in the middle of two audios and two hard copies.
I’m getting better about being able to be in the middle of two books, especially if they’re very different, but I do wish it bothered me even less! I’ve love to be able listen to them while doing other things the way you do, so I may have to give them another chance
